First, stop treating “getting more clients” like it’s one problem.
It isn’t.
It’s usually THREE problems wearing a trench coat and hoping nobody notices.
You need enough of the right people to NOTICE you, TRUST you and KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT.
That’s it.
I call those three stages:
Attention. Bonding. Commitment.
And when a coach tells me they’re struggling to get clients, I’m usually looking for the break somewhere in that chain.
Start here
“I need more clients” is a RESULT. It isn’t a diagnosis.
1. ATTENTION: Are enough of the right people actually seeing you?
You can be the greatest coach since somebody first sat opposite another human and said, “Have you thought about not doing that?”
...but if almost nobody knows you exist, you’re going to have a fairly quiet diary.
Attention means getting in front of the kinds of people you genuinely want to work with.
Not everybody.
Not 100,000 random Instagram followers.
Not people who enthusiastically like your motivational quote about boundaries while simultaneously having no intention whatsoever of paying you.
The RIGHT people.
That might happen through:
Content.
Speaking.
Podcasts.
Referrals.
Email.
Networking.
Introductions.
Search.
Existing clients.
Strategic relationships.
There isn’t one magical channel.
The question is simpler:
Are enough suitable people regularly encountering you and your work?
If the answer is no, you have an ATTENTION problem.
Don’t rewrite your offer seventeen times.
Get seen.
2. BONDING: Does seeing you make people want to know you better?
This is where a LOT of coaches get stuck.
They’re visible.
They’re posting.
They’re showing up.
They may even be getting likes, comments, views and all the lovely little internet biscuits platforms hand out to keep us pressing the lever.
But very little happens commercially.
Why?
Because attention isn’t trust.
Being seen doesn’t automatically make someone think:
“This is the person I want helping me with something important.”
Bonding is where people begin to understand:
How you think.
What you believe.
What you notice that others don’t.
What you stand for.
Who you’re good at helping.
How you approach problems.
Whether they like you.
Whether they trust you.
Whether being around your thinking makes THEM think better.
Your content shouldn’t merely prove that you know things.
It should create useful change BEFORE somebody pays you.
A better question.
A distinction they hadn’t seen.
A problem diagnosed differently.
A decision suddenly becoming obvious.
That’s coaching in public.
And it bonds people far more effectively than endlessly posting “three tips for confidence”.
(There are already several billion of those. Humanity may have enough.)
If bonding is weak
Stop asking “What should I post?” and start asking “What can I help someone SEE differently today?”
3. COMMITMENT: Are you actually giving people a way to work with you?
This one is wonderfully uncomfortable.
Some coaches spend six months:
Posting.
Writing.
Podcasting.
Building community.
Giving value.
Starting conversations.
Creating connection.
Establishing trust.
Being extremely useful.
Then NEVER meaningfully invite anyone to buy anything.
And eventually announce:
“My marketing isn’t working.”
Your marketing may be working beautifully.
Your invitations might simply be missing.
People need to know:
What you offer.
Who it’s for.
What it helps them change.
What working with you looks like.
What it costs.
And what they should do if they’re interested.
This doesn’t require turning into some sort of internet timeshare salesman.
You don’t need fake countdown timers.
You don’t need “ONLY TWO SPOTS LEFT!!!” when you have twenty-three.
You don’t need to chase people around the internet shouting “ARE YOU READY TO INVEST IN YOURSELF?”
You can simply invite.
Clearly.
Specifically.
Regularly.
Worth remembering
You’re not forcing anyone through the door. You’re making sure they can FIND the bloody door.
The same problem can need three completely different fixes
“I need more clients” can sound identical on the surface while requiring completely different action underneath.
Here’s why...
Coach A has an Attention problem
They’re brilliant.
Their offer is good.
The few people who speak to them often buy.
But hardly anybody new sees their work.
Their answer is NOT:
“Improve the sales script.”
Their answer is:
Get in front of more of the right people.
Coach B has a Bonding problem
They post constantly.
People see them.
They get likes.
They get comments.
They may even have a decent audience.
But almost nobody takes the relationship any further.
Their answer is NOT:
“Post more.”
Their answer is:
Create content that reveals more of how they think, what they believe and how they solve problems.
Coach C has a Commitment problem
They have attention.
They have trust.
People tell them how useful their work is.
They get lovely messages saying:
“I really needed this today.”
Wonderful.
Very touching.
Still not a business model.
Their answer is:
Invite people to work with them.
More clearly.
More specifically.
More often.
The diagnosis
Same symptom. Three different causes.
That’s why diagnosis matters.
What To Do Next
Don’t try to fix everything at once.
Look at the last 30 days and answer one question:
Where is the break?
If ATTENTION is weak
Get in front of new, relevant people.
For the next 30 days, create at least two new opportunities each week for people outside your existing audience to encounter you.
Guest podcasts.
Collaborations.
Speaking.
Introductions.
Search-led articles.
Strategic networking.
Content designed to travel beyond your current followers.
The method matters less than the outcome.
New right-fit people need to find you.
If BONDING is weak
Stop asking:
“What should I post?”
Start asking:
“What can I help someone SEE differently today?”
Create content that diagnoses.
Distinguishes.
Challenges.
Clarifies.
Shows your thinking.
Shows your standards.
Shows what you notice that others miss.
Give people a reason to think:
“I want more of THIS person’s brain in my life.”
That’s bonding.
If COMMITMENT is weak
Make an actual invitation.
Not a vague:
“DM me if this resonates.”
A real one.
Say who the offer is for.
What problem it helps solve.
What changes through the work.
What the next step is.
Then do it again next week.
And the week after.
People cannot buy what they don’t know exists.
So... how do you get more coaching clients?
Diagnose which part is broken.
If nobody suitable knows who you are...
Increase ATTENTION.
If people see you but don’t develop enough interest or trust...
Improve BONDING.
If people trust you but rarely become clients...
Improve COMMITMENT.
And sometimes, yes...
all three need work.
But that’s still far more useful than wandering around saying:
“I need more leads.”
Because now you know WHERE to look.
And once you know where the problem actually lives, you can stop randomly changing logos, rewriting your bio, creating another free PDF and sacrificing a small goat to the Instagram algorithm.
The question
Where is YOUR client pathway actually breaking... Attention, Bonding or Commitment?
Truth, joy and love
